Trump calls on Hamas to accept 'final proposal' for 60-day Gaza ceasefire
WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday pressed Hamas to accept what he described as a "final proposal" for a 60-day ceasefire with Israel in Gaza, a plan to be presented by mediators from Qatar and Egypt, according to Reuters.
Trump shared on social media that his team had held a "long and productive" discussion with Israeli officials regarding the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
While he did not specify which representatives took part in the meeting, U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Vice President JD Vance were scheduled to meet with Ron Dermer, a senior adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Trump announced that Israel had agreed to terms for a 60-day ceasefire, stating, "during which time we will work with all parties to end the War." He explained that mediators from Qatar and Egypt would now present this "final proposal" to Hamas.
"For the sake of the Middle East," Trump urged, "I hope Hamas accepts this Deal, because it will not improve — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
Earlier in the day, President Trump told reporters he was optimistic that an agreement involving a ceasefire in exchange for hostages could be reached between Israel and Hamas militants as soon as next week. He is scheduled to meet with Netanyahu at the White House on Monday.
