Egypt launches 14th annual Ramadan Iftar campaign to support vulnerable families

Egypt’s commitment to social solidarity shone brightly today, as Dr. Maya Morsy, Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity, attended the launch of the “Iftar For Those Fasting” campaign, organized for the fourteenth consecutive year by the prominent NGO Misr El Kheir Foundation. The launch ceremony took place in the historic Cairo Abdeen Palace, drawing dignitaries including governors, esteemed public figures, representatives from civil society, and diplomatic envoys.

In an event rich with gratitude and hope, Dr. Morsy celebrated Misr El Kheir Foundation and its role in delivering food aid and support to vulnerable families throughout the holy month of Ramadan. She expressed pride in Egypt’s deep-rooted tradition of charity and support for those in need, remarking: “Egypt is a nation where feeding others is a form of worship, and meeting the needs of the most vulnerable is a path to spiritual fulfillment.”

The Minister highlighted the Ministry’s extensive efforts in partnership with NGOs to expand access to food. Through initiatives like “Mahrousa Restaurants,” daily hot meals reach families across 12 provinces, facilitated by hundreds of partner organizations. In 2023 alone, over 1.5 million cooked meals were distributed monthly, with over 52 million meals provided during Ramadan and 2.5 million more during Eid al-Adha.

Echoing these sentiments, Dr. Ali Gomaa, Chairman of Misr El Kheir Foundation and former Grand Mufti of Egypt, thanked partners and supporters: “We are united in our mission to build goodness and resist hardship. The best deeds are those that continue, and together, we walk the path of compassion.”

Dr. Mohamed Refaai, CEO of Misr El Kheir Foundation, emphasized the holistic vision of the organization. While providing Iftar is central, the foundation’s work spans health, education, scientific research, and social empowerment, making a sustainable impact beyond food aid.

The launch event was also marked by a special recognition: Misr El Kheir Foundation received international certification from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), honoring its commitment to quality and transparency.

Ramadan, celebrated by millions in Egypt and around the globe, is a time of reflection, compassion, and solidarity—a spirit powerfully embodied in Egypt’s commitment to leaving no one behind. Dr. Morsy concluded, “The story of Egypt is not confined to museums; it lives anew with every act of kindness, every institution of responsibility, and every hand extended in compassion.”
