Egypt and Italy deepen ICT collaboration, focus on talent development and outsourcing growth

Egypt is further cementing its position as a leading hub for digital innovation and outsourcing services, following a successful series of meetings between Dr. Amr Talaat, Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and prominent technology leaders in Rome, Italy.

During his visit, Dr. Talaat held high-level discussions with Dr. Aldo Bisio, CEO of Engineering Group, one of Italy’s foremost digital transformation firms.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaborative efforts in nurturing digital talents and exploring new investment avenues within Egypt’s dynamic outsourcing sector.

The discussions highlighted the rapid growth of Egypt’s outsourcing industry, supported by robust government initiatives to create a conducive environment for global technology firms.

In this context, Engineering Group, which operates across more than 80 offices in Europe, the United States, and South America, is already cooperating in Egypt through EGABI.

Dr. Talaat also met with Mr. Massimo Canturi, Head of Konecta Global Digital Unit, and Mr. Ahmed El Harrani, Konecta’s Vice Chairman for the Middle East and Africa.

Konecta, a world leader in digital services and business process outsourcing (BPO), emphasized its strategic investments in Egypt, notably through the launch of its regional headquarters in Cairo in January of this year.

Konecta’s Cairo headquarters features a Center of Excellence for Generative Artificial Intelligence, with planned investments of around $100 million over the next three years. The company is leveraging cutting-edge technologies to drive automation, enhance service quality, and foster digital innovation, serving a vast international client base in over 30 languages and operating across 26 countries.

Leaders from both Engineering Group and Konecta lauded the caliber and diversity of Egyptian ICT talent, highlighting their multilingual capabilities and advanced technical skills—a key driver of the sector’s expansion and Egypt’s competitiveness on the global stage.

Dr. Talaat reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to expanding its ICT training programs across a wide spectrum of fields—from contact centers and BPO services to software development, digital solutions, IT project management, embedded automotive software, semiconductor design, and R&D—ensuring a steady pipeline of highly qualified professionals to support business growth.

Dr. Talaat’s two-day visit also included the inauguration of the Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development Center and meetings with Italy’s Minister of Business and Industry, as well as leading Italian technology firms. The visit is part of ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation and attract further international investment into Egypt's thriving ICT sector.
