Egypt FM reaffirms full support for Lebanon’s stability
Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, held talks on Wednesday with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam during an official visit to Beirut aimed at consulting with senior Lebanese officials on the latest developments and ways to bolster support for brotherly Lebanon in the current critical phase.
According to Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, Spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Abdelatty began the meeting by conveying the greetings and appreciation of Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to Prime Minister Salam. He also extended Egypt’s congratulations to Lebanon’s leadership, government, and people on the occasion of Independence Day, emphasizing Egypt’s pride in the profound national significance this day holds for Lebanon’s journey and unity, while wishing the country lasting stability and the restoration of its influential role on both Arab and international stages.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister expressed satisfaction with the positive momentum in bilateral relations, praising the fruitful discussions during Prime Minister Salam’s recent visit to Cairo, which led to the resumption of the Joint Higher Committee and the signing of 13 memoranda of understanding in vital sectors. He reaffirmed Egypt’s keenness to build on this momentum to elevate cooperation in economy, investment, energy, and culture, and to broaden the partnership in the interest of both brotherly peoples.
The meeting addressed developments in Lebanon and the region. Dr. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm conviction that strengthening the role of the state and empowering its legitimate institutions remains the best path to restoring stability and addressing Lebanon’s challenges. He voiced Egypt’s concern over the pace and expanding scope of Israeli attacks, stressing the urgent need for serious action to prevent further escalation and underscoring the importance of full and simultaneous implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and an immediate halt to all violations of Lebanese sovereignty.
Minister Abdelatty explained that his visit to Beirut comes in implementation of directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to directly engage in supporting Lebanon and explore Lebanese leaders’ views on de-escalation and stability. He reviewed the outcome of Egypt’s ongoing contacts with influential international and regional parties to rally support for Lebanon and prevent further deterioration.
For his part, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s historic positions toward Lebanon and its constant role in supporting its stability. He affirmed the Lebanese government’s commitment to maintaining close coordination with Cairo and enhancing joint cooperation across all fields.
