Egypt’s GEM staff complete professional etiquette training ahead of historic opening
As part of its preparations for the highly anticipated official opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) on July 3rd, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has announced the successful completion of a specialized training program in professional etiquette for museum staff.
This initiative, organized by the Central Training Unit at the Minister’s Office, aims to ensure sustainable excellence in Egypt’s tourism sector and reinforce Egypt’s position as a leading, diverse tourist destination.
Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Grand Egyptian Museum Authority, explained that the three-month program focused on equipping staff with the skills required to warmly welcome delegations and visitors, and to interact with tourists in a professional and respectful manner.
The training covered the principles of effective communication, the etiquette of dialogue, and appropriate conduct on various social media platforms. Additionally, participants learned about key features of different cultures and how to engage with visitors from around the world. Dr. Ghoneim emphasized that this initiative will positively impact the performance of all museum staff across various roles.
Dr. Ahmed Raheema, Assistant Minister for Human Resources Development and General Supervisor of the Central Training Unit, added that a total of 70 employees participated in the program, which was held in three groups. He noted that similar training programs have already been implemented at other significant archaeological sites and museums, including the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, under the Supreme Council of Antiquities. These efforts are part of the ministry’s broader strategy to offer exceptional touristic and cultural experiences to all visitors.
Dr. Raheema also highlighted that such training initiatives will continue in the future, contributing to enhanced visitor satisfaction and supporting the ministry’s goals of attracting culturally interested tourists. Furthermore, the theoretical component of the etiquette training will soon be made available through the Ministry’s upcoming online training platform, set to be launched in the near future.
