Egypt, Jordan discuss regional escalation as Cairo reaffirms full solidarity with Amman

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held talks in Amman on Monday with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi to discuss the consequences of escalating regional tensions, reaffirming Cairo’s “full solidarity” with the Hashemite Kingdom, the Egyptian foreign ministry said.

The meeting came during the fourth stop of Abdelatty’s regional tour aimed at coordinating positions with Arab partners on what the statement described as the “grave challenges” facing the Middle East.

Both ministers stressed the “deep, historic and solid” ties between Egypt and Jordan, praising the continued growth in bilateral cooperation and the importance of strengthening existing coordination mechanisms to serve shared interests.

The ministers discussed what they called the dangerous escalation unfolding in the region and reviewed efforts to de-escalate, restore calm and prevent the expansion of conflict through diplomatic channels. They also called for activating joint Arab efforts to confront regional crises.

The statement said the two ministers renewed their condemnation of recent Iranian attacks on Jordan and Gulf states, calling them an “unjustified escalation” and a “flagrant violation” of international law and state sovereignty. They affirmed Egypt’s and Jordan’s full solidarity with Arab states targeted by the attacks.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s support for Jordan in the face of the Iranian strikes, while Safadi expressed appreciation for Cairo’s stance.

The ministers said the focus on regional conflict must not overshadow the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. They called for the full implementation of US President Donald Trump’s plan and the cessation of what they described as illegal Israeli measures in the West Bank. They also condemned Israeli restrictions on worshippers at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

On Lebanon, the ministers voiced support for the Lebanese government’s efforts to strengthen state institutions and ensure that weapons remain under state authority. They condemned Israeli military action in Lebanon and urged an immediate halt to the attacks.

Both ministers agreed to continue working together to advance bilateral ties and maintain coordination on regional developments and issues of mutual concern, the statement added.
