Successful oil discovery in Egypt’s Western Desert showcases the potential of mature fields
As part of its ongoing efforts to boost local energy production, Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has announced a promising new oil discovery in the Abu Sennan fields, located in the Western Desert.
This achievement is aligned with the ministry’s strategy to make better use of the country’s mature oil fields.
The Egyptian General Petroleum Company (GPC) reported that its latest well, GPR-1X, is producing promising results. Early data shows production rates of up to 1,400 barrels of crude oil and around one million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
Additionally, this well is expected to add about 2 million recoverable barrels to Egypt’s oil reserves.
According to Mr. Mohamed Abdel Meguid, Chairman of the GPC, the well is currently undergoing further production tests, with even more promising signs detected in other layers of the field, known as Abu Roash G and B.
This is the second major discovery in the Abu Sennan area within just three months.
The previous discovery in March was made possible by using advanced artificial intelligence technologies, highlighting the important role of modern technology in Egypt’s oil exploration.
These results suggest that the Western Desert still holds many untapped resources, and that ongoing investment and innovation offer exciting future opportunities for Egypt’s energy sector.
