Sisi welcomes Rwandan President Kagame in Cairo, strengthening bilateral ties
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi welcomed Rwandan President Paul Kagame at the Presidential Palace in Cairo today, reaffirming the commitment of both nations to deepen their longstanding partnership.
Following a ceremonial reception with national anthems, the two leaders held a private meeting, accompanied by extended discussions between delegations from both countries. President Sisi warmly highlighted Egypt and Rwanda’s historic relations, expressing eagerness to enhance cooperation—especially in economic, trade, and medical sectors—with an emphasis on joint investment in pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, food products, and construction industries.
President Sisi reiterated Egypt’s readiness to support Rwanda’s developmental aspirations, offering capacity-building cooperation to help realize Rwanda’s Vision 2050. President Kagame praised the existing fruitful collaboration, expressing Rwanda’s hope to broaden mutual cooperation for the benefit of both peoples.
The leaders exchanged views on pressing regional and international issues, including the Great Lakes and Horn of Africa, reaffirming their shared commitment to peace, stability, and regional integration. Particular focus was placed on cooperation among Nile Basin countries, with both presidents emphasizing the importance of respecting international law in managing transboundary waters. President Sisi underscored that water security is a vital, existential concern for Egypt and voiced his country’s full openness to constructive cooperation for the common good.
President Sisi and President Kagame also discussed enhanced coordination within the African Union. Kagame commended Egypt’s role in reconstruction and development initiatives, while Sisi praised Rwanda’s efforts in AU institutional reform.
The leaders addressed recent developments regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, following the recent two-state solution conference in New York and the growing international recognition of a Palestinian state. President Sisi updated his counterpart on Egypt’s efforts to halt the war in Gaza and increase humanitarian aid, firmly rejecting any attempts to displace Palestinians from their land and reaffirming that an independent state on the June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital is essential for lasting peace.
The visit concluded with the signing of several memoranda of understanding, paving the way for stronger cooperation in water resources management, land allocation for logistical and economic purposes, housing, and investment. In a joint press conference, President Sisi emphasized the shared vision and strong rapport between Egypt and Rwanda, vowing to continue working closely to foster growth, stability, and prosperity in Africa.
President Sisi warmly welcomed President Kagame, expressing gratitude for the visit, and looked forward to further collaboration to advance the welfare of both nations and the unity and progress of the African continent.
