Egypt hosts leading German tour operator’s annual conference for the first time
In a significant milestone for Egypt’s tourism sector, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities—represented by the Egyptian Tourism Authority—has hosted the annual conference of Anex Tour, a prominent German tour operator, under the theme “Red Carpet Night.” This prestigious event marks the first time the conference has been held in Egypt, taking place in the picturesque Sahl Hasheesh area of the Red Sea city of Hurghada.
The conference welcomed 300 top travel agents from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland—all with annual sales exceeding €100,000 per agent—showcasing Egypt’s growing appeal among European markets.
Eng. Ahmed Youssef, CEO of the Egyptian Tourism Authority, emphasized that hosting such a renowned event offered German-speaking agents a unique opportunity to experience first-hand Egypt’s rich tourism offerings and to receive key information that will help them enthusiastically promote Egypt as a top destination to their clients.
He noted, “Welcoming flagship events like this not only shines a light on Egypt’s recent progress and world-class tourism products, but also highlights our unique offerings, including the incentives and conference tourism (MICE) sector. This segment attracts high-spending visitors and demonstrates Egypt’s excellence and capabilities in hosting major international events.”
During the conference, Eng. Ahmed Youssef held a media briefing with the German delegation, sharing future plans for promoting Egypt—particularly in the German market—and showcasing new tourism products and experiences, including the much-anticipated Grand Egyptian Museum.
He also participated in professional workshops on the sidelines of the event, reaffirming the Ministry’s and the Authority’s ongoing commitment to supporting strategic partnerships aimed at further increasing inbound tourism to Egypt.
Mr. Mohamed Farag, Head of Finance and Administration at the Egyptian Tourism Office in Berlin, described Anex Tour as one of the most influential tour operators in the German market and noted its presence across several European and Russian markets. He highlighted the strong strategic partnership, stating, “Anex Tour brought over 90,000 German visitors to Egypt in 2024, and we are targeting 120,000 visitors by the end of this year. Hosting their annual conference here is a testament to the confidence in Egypt as a leading travel destination and its remarkable potential for continued growth.”
