Turkey’s envoy tours El‑Nas Hospital, praises free medical care

Turkey’s ambassador to Egypt, Salih Mutlu Şen, on Monday visited the El‑Nas charity hospital in Shubra El‑Kheima, north of Cairo, where he met adult and child patients receiving treatment at the facility.

During the visit, Şen held talks with the hospital’s executive director, Hatem El‑Mallah, who briefed him on the hospital’s activities and medical services. El‑Mallah accompanied the ambassador on a tour of several departments and outlined the range of care provided. He said the hospital is equipped with modern medical technology and operates as a non-profit institution offering all services free of charge.

Egyptian actress Yousra and several hospital officials joined the tour.

Hospital administrators said Nahr El‑Nas is one of the largest medical centres in Africa and the Middle East providing free treatment for heart disease, gastrointestinal disorders, diabetes and burns. The hospital relies entirely on donations, has 600 beds — including 140 in intensive care — and treats children who make up around 70 percent of its patients. It also receives some patients transferred from Gaza.

Şen inspected the burns unit, the cardiac catheterisation department, operating theatres and paediatric cardiac services, and briefly observed an ongoing heart surgery. He also spoke with young patients, offering them small Eid gifts and wishing them a swift recovery.

The ambassador said he was deeply moved by the hospital’s organisation, the level of care and the quality of its services. He added that the visit aimed to lift patients’ spirits on the eve of Laylat al‑Qadr and to support a successful medical institution that provides high‑quality treatment without profit motives. He also praised the doctors and medical staff for their dedication.
