Egypt strengthens African cooperation in aquaculture with international training program

Egypt has launched its first international training program for aquaculture, welcoming an official delegation from Ghana to the Zawia Fish Farm Training Center in Kafr El Sheikh governorate.

The initiative, led by Major General Hossain Farahat, Executive Director of Egypt's Lakes and Fisheries Protection and Development Agency (LFPA), aims to boost African cooperation and share Egyptian expertise with partner nations.

In his opening speech, Major General Farahat stated that the program highlights Egypt's commitment to leveraging its investments in the fisheries sector to serve African nations. He emphasized the country's growing role as a regional hub for training and capacity building in aquaculture.

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Director, Dr. Ahmed Seny El-Din, Head of the Central Administration for Production and Operations, described the program as a new starting point for Egyptian-African cooperation in aquaculture. He reiterated Egypt’s dedication to supporting African countries to enhance food security and promote mutual development.

The training program includes specialized lectures on topics such as fish hatchery management, quality control, nutrition, and disease prevention. Participants will also take part in field visits to fish farms and hatcheries in Kafr El Sheikh, Alexandria, and Fayoum to observe Egypt's leading practices firsthand. Dr. Amani Ahmed, General Manager of the Veterinary Affairs Department, also delivered a lecture on biosecurity and disease prevention strategies in fish farms.
