Egypt strongly condemns Israeli strikes on places of worship in Gaza
Cairo, Egypt – The Egyptian government has issued a forceful condemnation of recent Israeli attacks targeting places of worship in the Gaza Strip, including mosques and churches. The latest incident, according to the statement, involved the bombing of the Latin Patriarchate Church in Gaza.
Egypt described these attacks as a “flagrant violation of international humanitarian law” and accused Israel of systematic disregard for the protection of civilians and sacred sites during its ongoing military operations in Gaza.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry called upon the international community to urgently intervene, urging global leaders to hold Israel accountable and ensure the protection of religious sites in accordance with international law. Egypt reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Palestinian civilians and upholding the sanctity of all places of worship.
According to reports from the BBC, several individuals have been injured at the Holy Family Church in Gaza City amidst unconfirmed claims that Israeli artillery fire struck the site.
Catholic Church leaders have referred to the incident as a "raid" in their official statement, while Italy’s prime minister has specifically blamed Israeli forces for the attack.
The Israeli military has stated that they are aware of the reports detailing casualties and damage at the church, adding that "the circumstances of the incident are under review."
