Egypt’s nuclear regulator reassures public amid regional concerns
Cairo — Egypt’s Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) has resumed its public awareness campaign this week, with an event at the Egypt Public Library in Greater Cairo. Amidst recent regional developments, the authority is committed to ongoing communication with citizens, aiming to build trust, provide reassurance, and counteract misinformation.
In a statement, ENRRA emphasized its key regulatory and oversight role for all nuclear and radiological activities in Egypt. The campaign is designed to address concerns sparked by rapidly changing circumstances in the region, as well as to correct rumors spread by unofficial sources.
Dr. Maihetab El-Manawi, Head of Public Relations and International Cooperation at ENRRA, opened the session with an overview of the agency’s origins, responsibilities, and achievements. She stressed the vital importance of public understanding and highlighted partnerships with various Egyptian institutions — especially the nationwide network of public libraries — as a cornerstone of the authority’s outreach strategy.
Dr. El-Manawi also provided an update on Egypt’s radiological situation, assuring attendees that the country remains unaffected by any ongoing regional events, as reaffirmed by the authority’s official statement released earlier today.
