Egypt Minister discusses cooperation with Chinese company Sungrow

Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, met with representatives from the Chinese company Sungrow to discuss localizing the manufacturing of renewable energy equipment and the progress of a planned energy storage battery factory. The meeting, which took place in the New Administrative Capital, also included officials from Norway's Scatec.

The discussions focused on establishing a partnership to manufacture wind and solar power components and to localize the technology for producing energy storage batteries. This includes plans for Egypt's first factory in this field.

Dr. Esmat highlighted that the country’s current efforts to localize modern technology and industry are a direct result of the complete rebuilding of infrastructure and a supportive legislative framework over the past decade.

He emphasized that Egypt offers a promising local market with a comprehensive plan for manufacturing renewable energy equipment. Additionally, the country has existing trade agreements with European and African nations that provide investors with access to additional markets.

The meeting also explored how Egypt's trade agreements could be leveraged for exporting to surrounding markets. The minister affirmed the state's support for localizing the renewable energy industry as part of a broader vision to enhance technology and meet its ambitious energy strategy. This strategy aims to increase the share of renewable energy in Egypt's power mix to over 42% by 2030 and 65% by 2040.
