Egypt anti‑addiction fund holds Eid activities in North Sinai
The Addiction Treatment and Prevention Fund continued its awareness activities across North Sinai during the Eid al‑Adha holiday, holding events at youth centers in Bir al‑Abd and Arish in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the fund said in a statement.
The activities, carried out through the fund’s “prevention clubs” inside youth centers, aimed to educate families about early detection of drug use and raise awareness among young people and children about the dangers of smoking and addiction. Visitors took part in sessions correcting misconceptions about drugs, including the belief that narcotics enhance concentration or memory, and were informed about the fund’s hotline, 16023, which provides counseling, psychological support, treatment and rehabilitation. The fund urged people struggling with addiction to seek free treatment at its 35 centers in 20 governorates.
The prevention clubs operate inside youth centers in various governorates and offer family meetings, educational sessions and children’s activities such as drawing and coloring. According to the statement, the clubs aim to build a “strong and aware generation” capable of protecting itself from behavioral and health risks, particularly drug abuse, by promoting a culture of prevention and developing life skills among youth. The clubs also work to provide safe, supportive spaces that encourage healthy lifestyles and greater youth engagement in community development.
Children attending the Eid activities also joined storytelling workshops designed to help them learn decision‑making skills and recognize their talents, using them as a path away from smoking. Interactive games included “Snakes and Smoke,” illustrating how smoking and drugs hinder progress, as well as sports and thinking‑skills games tailored to different age groups.
