Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire hold 3rd round of political consultations in Cairo

Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire have reinforced their robust bilateral relations through the third round of political consultations, held on Monday in Cairo. The discussions were led by Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, and his Ivorian counterpart, Mr. Léon Kacou Adom.

Both sides highlighted the positive momentum in Egyptian-Ivorian relations, underscored by increasing high-level visits and regular talks between officials from both nations. The ministers recalled the notable achievements of their previous round of consultations in October, which led to elevating the dialogue to the ministerial level.

The discussions covered a broad agenda aimed at broadening cooperation in key areas such as agriculture, fisheries, livestock, infrastructure, mining, healthcare, transportation, education, civil aviation, and capacity building. Dr. Abdel Aaty emphasized the expertise of Egyptian companies in supporting development projects across Africa, including road and bridge construction and the localization of pharmaceutical industries.

A significant part of the talks focused on capacity building and counterterrorism efforts in West Africa. Dr. Abdel Aaty reiterated Egypt’s readiness to help Côte d’Ivoire establish an institute for diplomatic studies and to intensify cooperation against terrorism. He pointed to Egypt’s extensive experience in training military and police forces, supporting peace and development programs, and providing religious and cultural missions.

The two ministers also discussed developments in the Middle East, the Horn of Africa, and the Red Sea, as well as broader efforts to promote peace and stability throughout the African continent. Dr. Abdel Aaty stressed Egypt’s commitment to security in the Sahel and West Africa, recognizing the regional and national implications of instability.

At the close of the consultations, both ministers signed a mutual agreement waiving visa requirements for holders of official passports, promoting greater freedom of movement for officials and enhancing bilateral cooperation.

Minister Adom commended Egypt’s vital role in supporting West African countries, both in capacity building and through efforts to broker a ceasefire and facilitate humanitarian aid in Gaza.

Both parties agreed to maintain ongoing coordination at bilateral and multilateral levels and to support each other’s candidacies in international organizations, with Egypt expressing gratitude for Côte d’Ivoire’s backing of Dr. Khaled El-Anany’s candidacy as Director-General of UNESCO.

This strategic dialogue marks a significant step in strengthening Egyptian-Ivorian relations and showcases Africa’s spirit of solidarity and shared progress.
