Egypt and Oman leaders urge de-escalation, peace in the region

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a telephone conversation today with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of Oman to discuss the latest developments in the region.


According to the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, the two leaders focused on the current escalation between Israel and Iran. President Sisi emphasized the urgent need to de-escalate tensions, warning of the severe consequences that could arise if the conflict spreads further. 


He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to encouraging a return to negotiations in order to spare lives and ensure peace in the region. President Sisi also praised Oman’s active role in mediating between Iran and the United States, underlining the importance of reviving and strengthening diplomatic talks to avoid the tragedy of war.


Sultan Haitham expressed appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal efforts to end violence in the region, reaffirming Oman’s commitment to working closely with Egypt in pursuit of peace.


The two leaders agreed on the immediate priority of securing a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to alleviate the immense suffering of its people amid the ongoing conflict. They also stressed that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state remains the cornerstone for sustainable stability in the Middle East.


Finally, both sides highlighted the deep and longstanding relationship between Egypt and Oman, expressing mutual enthusiasm for expanding their cooperation across various fields, in line with the rich history shared by the two nations.
