Egypt’s Prime Minister hails progress at El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant
El-Dabaa — Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly paid an inspection visit today to the construction site of the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, highlighting the nation’s significant strides towards launching its first nuclear facility for peaceful purposes.
Accompanied by key cabinet ministers—including Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat and Minister of Finance Ahmed Kojok—Dr. Madbouly was also joined by senior officials from Egypt’s Nuclear Power Plants Authority and representatives from Russia, including the Russian Consul General in Alexandria and executives from Atomstroyexport, the project’s main contractor.
During his visit, Prime Minister Madbouly emphasized the project’s strategic importance:
“This nuclear power plant is the realization of a national dream cherished by Egyptians since the mid-20th century. It stands today as solid proof of our determination and vision to secure advanced, safe, and sustainable sources of electricity,” he said. “It also reflects the deep partnership between Egypt and Russia, exemplifying our shared commitment to expanded cooperation, especially in the promising field of energy.”
With Egypt aiming to diversify its energy mix and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, El-Dabaa is seen as a cornerstone for the country’s renewable and clean energy strategy. The four-reactor plant, built in cooperation with Russian partners, is the first of its kind in Egypt and a major milestone in the nation’s Vision 2030 development plan.
Dr. Madbouly’s site tour included a detailed update on construction progress and a visit to the manufacturing workshops—critical hubs where key reactor components are being assembled to the highest international standards. According to officials, Egyptian workers comprise nearly 80% of the project’s workforce, with significant contributions in local manufacturing.
Minister Esmat praised the ongoing collaboration between Egyptian and Russian teams, noting that the project is proceeding on schedule and in line with agreed financial and technical frameworks. “This project is a testament to the steadfast commitment from both sides, and its completion will position Egypt as a leader in the peaceful use of nuclear energy across the region,” he added.
Egyptian and Russian teams working on the site were commended by Dr. Madbouly for their dedication and professionalism, who also marked the occasion by taking commemorative photos with staff from both countries.
The El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant is undergoing continuous progress, with works rigorously supervised to ensure compliance with the highest standards of nuclear safety and quality. Officials confirmed that the reactors are on track for their scheduled delivery dates, with no significant delays or obstacles expected.
As Egypt presses forward with its ambition to meet rising electricity needs and support sustainable development, El-Dabaa stands as a flagship symbol of the country’s drive for technological advancement and international cooperation. The plant’s inauguration, anticipated within the coming years, will mark a pivotal moment in the history of Egypt’s energy sector.
