Egypt advances vaccine self-sufficiency with new international partnership
Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, has held high-level talks to follow up on international agreements for establishing a multi-stage vaccine manufacturing facility. The project, led by Egypt’s “VACSERA” in partnership with the European Investment Bank, aims to boost domestic vaccine production, reduce dependency on imports, and serve both local and regional health needs.
The recent meeting brought together senior officials from the Ministry of Health, VACSERA, and the European Investment Bank to review financing agreements, technical support, and legal frameworks. Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the Ministry’s spokesperson, highlighted that the initiative is a major step toward localizing vaccine production in Egypt and is in line with the nation’s goals for healthcare self-sufficiency.
Discussions also explored expanding future cooperation to include pharmaceutical raw materials, technology transfer, and support for national health programs, further strengthening Egypt’s healthcare infrastructure and service quality. The parties emphasized the importance of completing all technical and legal preparations promptly, with a view toward signing final agreements on schedule.
