Egypt, US deepen Fulbright education ties

Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Ayman Ashour, chaired a meeting of the Fulbright Commission’s Board of Directors at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.

The session was attended by senior Egyptian education officials and American representatives, including Fulbright’s Executive Director Dr. Maggie Nassif.

During the meeting, Dr. Ashour emphasized the importance of expanding support for Egyptian researchers while increasing opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship. He highlighted Fulbright’s vital role in strengthening academic and cultural ties between Egypt and the United States, and called for new programs aligning with Egypt’s priorities in scientific research and economic development—especially those benefiting youth across all regions.

Dr. Nassif presented Fulbright’s latest achievements, including landmark milestones for scholars from regional universities and growing participation in programs like joint-supervision PhDs and leadership MBAs.

The board discussed developing academic and professional exchanges in diverse fields—from aquatic sciences and wireless engineering to public health, disability studies, and the arts. They also explored expanding Fulbright scholarships, English teaching fellowships, and collaborative projects between US and Egyptian institutions.

Concluding the meeting, Dr. Ashour expressed pride in the new opportunities Fulbright offers for Egyptians and reaffirmed the state’s support—under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi—for international partnerships that empower youth and advance sustainable development through education and research.
