EgyptAir strengthens strategic partnership with UK’s Rolls-Royce
In a bid to modernize its fleet and advance its technical capabilities, EgyptAir has reaffirmed and expanded its partnership with British engineering giant Rolls-Royce. A high-ranking delegation from EgyptAir, led by Chairman Captain Ahmed Adel, paid an official visit to Rolls-Royce’s global headquarters in Derby, United Kingdom.
The delegation also included Eng. Ibrahim Fathi, President of EgyptAir Maintenance & Engineering, and Ahmed Marai, Head of Planning at EgyptAir Holding. The visit encompassed a detailed tour of Rolls-Royce’s main manufacturing facilities and state-of-the-art research and development centers specializing in cutting-edge aircraft engine technology.
Rolls-Royce executives, including Ewen McDonald (Vice President, Customer Service), Eng. Omar Ali Adeeb (Senior Vice President, Middle East & Africa), Eng. George Abu Nasr (Executive Director, Customer Service, Africa), and Andrew Rolling (Chief Engineer, XWB Engine), welcomed the EgyptAir team.
During focused bilateral meetings, both companies explored ways to deepen their collaboration, particularly in the fields of engine maintenance, repair, upgrades, and the adoption of the latest technological advancements.
The talks placed special emphasis on the engines that power EgyptAir’s growing fleet, aiming to identify future cooperation possibilities in line with EgyptAir’s ambitious modernization plan.
Key topics included updates on the current and upcoming Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines powering 11 Airbus A330 aircraft and the Trent 1000 engines used in 8 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. The discussions also covered the supply of Trent XWB engines for 16 new Airbus A350 aircraft. The first A350 is slated to join EgyptAir’s fleet in December 2025. Renowned for their fuel efficiency and environmental performance, the XWB engines represent the next step in EgyptAir’s journey toward sustainability.
Captain Ahmed Adel expressed his appreciation for the visit, highlighting the long-standing and fruitful relationship between EgyptAir and Rolls-Royce, which dates back to 2004. "We are proud of our enduring partnership with a world leader like Rolls-Royce. This collaboration has been fundamental to the growth and reliability of EgyptAir’s fleet," he remarked.
Adel added that as EgyptAir moves forward with fleet upgrades and embraces digital transformation, the partnership with Rolls-Royce is seen as a cornerstone to operational efficiency, safety, and environmental stewardship.
