Egypt, Somalia, Turkey, Djibouti reject Israel's recognition of Somaliland

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, held urgent telephone discussions on Friday with the Foreign Ministers of Somalia, Turkey, and Djibouti. The talks focused on the serious recent developments in the Horn of Africa, drawing particular concern over Israel’s recognition of the self-declared region of Somaliland.

According to an official statement from Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdel Aaty spoke individually with Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdusalam Abdi Ali, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and Djibouti’s Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf. During these conversations, the four leaders expressed their unequivocal rejection and condemnation of Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, a move they warned could undermine the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia.

“All four ministers reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the legitimate institutions of the Somali state and rejected any unilateral actions that would threaten the foundations of stability in the region or create parallel entities in conflict with Somalia’s internationally recognized government,” the statement read.

The officials further emphasized that the recognition of independent authorities within established states represents a dangerous precedent and a threat to both regional and international peace and security. They stressed that respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries is a core principle of the international order, grounded in the UN Charter and international law.

During the calls, the ministers also reiterated their strong opposition to any attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinian population from their land — a stance shared by the overwhelming majority of states worldwide.

The statement concluded with a collective call for dialogue and adherence to international legal frameworks to ensure that peace, stability, and development are upheld throughout the Horn of Africa and beyond.
