Egypt’s FM receives EU special envoy for Middle East peace process

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, received today Christophe Bigot, the EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process.

The meeting addressed the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and international efforts to support a comprehensive settlement track.

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Minister Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s firm positions on the crisis, foremost among which is the commitment to implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2803. This includes consolidating the ceasefire, ensuring unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid, and preparing for the deployment of a temporary international stabilization force.

The Minister stressed the importance of advancing steps to form the Palestinian technocratic committee in preparation for the return of the Palestinian Authority control over the Gaza Strip. He reiterated Egypt’s categorical rejection of any calls aimed at displacing Palestinians or altering the geographic and demographic status of the Strip.

Ambassador Khallaf added that Minister Abdelatty also discussed the training of Palestinian police elements in Egypt, underlining the need for joint work to significantly increase the daily volume of humanitarian assistance entering Gaza.

The meeting concluded with Minister Abdelatty briefing the EU envoy on the requirements of the second phase of President Trump’s plan, affirming Egypt’s keenness to continue coordination with regional and international partners to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people – chief among them the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Both sides agreed on the importance of maintaining close consultations in the coming period to ensure coordination of positions and support for the political track amid the delicate circumstances currently surrounding the Palestinian cause.
