Egypt calls for deeper economic ties with Algeria at joint business forum

Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly delivered a keynote speech on Tuesday evening at the Egyptian-Algerian Business Forum, held in the New Administrative Capital. The event was co-chaired by Dr. Madbouly and his Algerian counterpart, Prime Minister Saïfi Gharib, and attended by ministers and private-sector representatives from both countries.

In his address, Dr. Madbouly warmly welcomed the Algerian delegation, describing Egypt as their “second home” and expressing delight at hosting them during the ninth session of the Egypt-Algeria High Joint Committee.

“The presence of our Algerian brothers today clearly reflects the depth of the historic bonds between our two nations and our shared determination to elevate these relations to broader and more ambitious horizons,” the Prime Minister said.

While acknowledging positive progress in recent years, Dr. Madbouly stressed that current trade and investment volumes between Egypt and Algeria remain far below their true potential. “We still have untapped opportunities. If properly harnessed, they can transform our cooperation into major economic partnerships that extend to regional, African, and European markets,” he noted.

The Prime Minister outlined key priority areas for enhanced cooperation, including:

  • Energy
  • Infrastructure and construction
  • Water desalination and sanitation
  • Agriculture
  • Transportation and roads

He praised the proven capability of Egyptian companies operating in Algeria, which he said have delivered landmark development projects, and called for the reactivation of the Egyptian-Algerian Business Council as a practical platform to promote investment opportunities and facilitate direct business-to-business engagement.

Dr. Madbouly emphasized that sustainable economic ties depend primarily on an active private sector. “The success of this forum will be measured by the concrete partnerships and projects that emerge from direct meetings between Egyptian and Algerian companies,” he stated, highlighting ongoing improvements in the investment climate in both countries and strong political will to support joint ventures.

The Prime Minister also highlighted Egypt’s ongoing deep economic reforms aimed at improving the business environment, attracting investment, and prioritizing innovation and technology for sustainable growth. He reaffirmed the Egyptian government’s commitment to removing any obstacles facing Algerian companies in Egypt and expressed confidence that Algeria would continue to facilitate the work of Egyptian firms.

In closing, Dr. Madbouly reiterated Egypt’s firm commitment to elevating bilateral relations with Algeria into a solid strategic partnership worthy of the two nations’ shared history and the aspirations of their peoples. He expressed profound appreciation for Algeria’s sincere efforts to strengthen cooperation and voiced optimism that the forum would mark the beginning of a new phase of joint projects and deeper economic integration between the two countries.
