Egypt welcomes US‑announced Lebanon ceasefire
Egypt on Thursday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a 10‑day ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, calling it an important step toward de‑escalation and an end to Israeli military operations, the foreign ministry said.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad said the ceasefire could help curb rising tensions and halt what it described as Israeli aggression against Lebanon.
Egypt urged Israel to fully comply with the cessation of all military actions and reaffirmed its “steadfast position” supporting Lebanon’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the ability of its national institutions to function without external interference.
The statement reiterated Cairo’s longstanding demand for Israel’s complete and immediate withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 without selectivity.
Egypt also called on the international community to assume its responsibilities to ensure the ceasefire’s sustainability, ease the suffering of Lebanese civilians, allow safe and uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid, and create conditions for displaced residents to return to their towns and villages.
