Palestinian athlete praises Egypt’s role in securing Gaza ceasefire
Palestinian runner Fares Abu Amra has publicly expressed deep gratitude to Egypt for its decisive efforts in brokering the ceasefire in Gaza following the Sharm El Sheikh agreement, highlighting Cairo’s enduring role as a pillar of security and stability in the region.
In remarks to Nile Radio, Abu Amra stated, “Egypt has always been — and continues to be — a land of safety and security. Its proud history is a source of inspiration for the entire Arab world.” He extended heartfelt thanks with the words, “Thank you, Egypt, the land of history and glory. Long live Egypt!”
Abu Amra went on to emphasize Egypt’s influential position both regionally and globally, noting, “The whole world watched the events in Gaza, but only Egypt intervened and stood by its brothers in the Strip.” He hailed Egypt as the “mother of the world,” a term of deep respect in the Arab world, and expressed pride in seeing Egypt’s flag raised.
Highlighting the humanitarian bond between peoples, Abu Amra acknowledged that the vast majority of food and humanitarian aid entering Gaza has come via Egypt, a reflection of the close ties between Palestinians and Egyptians.
He also praised President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, saying, “President Sisi is a true Arab leader. History will remember his honorable stance with the Palestinian people — he is the one who stopped the war and genocide against us. To President Sisi, I say: history will honor your struggle and integrity.”
Concluding his remarks, the Palestinian athlete reflected on his admiration for Egypt and its legacy: “I studied Egypt’s history in school, and it is a history of victories. I feel safe in Egypt and love it with all my heart — it is truly a land of safety and peace.”
