Egypt and Japan strengthen industrial and technological cooperation
Egypt’s Minister of State for Military Production, Mohamed Salah El-Din Mostafa, held talks in Cairo with Japanese Ambassador Iwai Fumio to discuss boosting collaboration in a range of manufacturing sectors.
During the meeting, Minister Mostafa emphasized Egypt’s commitment to leveraging global expertise to support sustainable development by strengthening local manufacturing capabilities at international quality standards. He highlighted existing successful partnerships with Japan, including a joint venture with Mizuha to produce atmospheric water generators, developed and manufactured by Helwan Metal Appliances Company. Over 70% of the device’s components are now sourced locally, and it meets Egyptian standards for drinking water.
The Egyptian minister reaffirmed his ministry’s interest in deepening industrial and technological cooperation with Japan, noting the importance of combining Japanese expertise with Egypt’s production capabilities to enhance the quality and competitiveness of local industries. He also expressed readiness to partner with both Egyptian and international private sector companies to develop new products and innovate existing ones.
Ambassador Fumio underscored Japan’s strong commitment to supporting economic and industrial ties with Egypt, praising the Ministry of Military Production’s role in both defense and civilian manufacturing and exports. He pledged continued coordination between the embassy and the ministry to overcome any challenges and encourage more Japanese investment in Egypt’s growing manufacturing sector.
Both sides expressed optimism for further joint projects that will benefit the economies of both nations and strengthen the historic Egyptian-Japanese relationship.
