State-of-the-art air purification installed inside the Pyramid of Khufu

As part of ongoing efforts to preserve Egypt’s unique heritage, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, represented by the Supreme Council of Antiquities, has installed advanced Sharp air purification systems equipped with Plasmacluster technology inside the King’s and Queen’s Chambers of the Pyramid of Khufu, the last remaining wonder of the ancient world. This initiative, carried out in cooperation with Al-Araby Group and Sharp Japan, aligns with Egypt’s commitment to sustainable development and promoting “green” tourism.

Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, was joined by Mr. Hideyuki Nagamine, General Manager for Intelligent Devices and Air Purification at Sharp Japan, and Eng. Mohamed Abdelmajeed El-Araby, Board Member of Al-Araby Group, in touring the pyramid to inspect the newly installed devices and ensure their optimal performance.

Plans are underway to conduct studies for installing similar air purification systems inside the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure.

Dr. Khaled emphasized that the installation of Plasmacluster technology inside the Great Pyramid marks a significant step in utilizing modern technology to help safeguard Egypt’s archaeological treasures. These devices will reduce humidity and purify the air inside the historic chambers, offering vital protection for the ancient walls against deterioration.

He also noted that the Ministry is keen to provide a safe and comfortable experience for visitors, especially in the narrow ancient chambers. The new air purifiers will directly enhance air quality, ensuring a healthier and more enjoyable environment for all who wish to discover the wonders of Egyptian civilization.

Mr. Hideyuki Nagamine expressed his admiration for Egypt’s rich heritage and said Sharp is honored to support the preservation of world heritage sites by providing its latest technological solutions.

Eng. Mohamed Abdelmajeed El-Araby described the initiative as a clear affirmation of the value of integrating advanced technologies in heritage preservation — not just as a luxury, but as an environmental and health necessity. He expressed pride in his company’s partnership on this project, which further strengthens Egypt’s global standing as a cradle of civilization and history.
