Japan grants $40,000 for MRI anesthesia machine at Luxor Pediatric Cancer Hospital
The Embassy of Japan has awarded a US$40,000 grant to Shefaa Al Orman Hospital for Cancer Treatment in Luxor Governorate through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (“KUSANONE” program).
The grant contract was signed this week by Iwai Fumio, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt, and Mahmoud Fouad, CEO of Shefaa Al Orman Organization and Deputy General Manager of Al Orman Association.
The funding will enable the hospital to purchase an MRI-compatible anesthesia machine, a critical piece of equipment that allows young cancer patients, who often require sedation, to undergo safe and accurate MRI scans. The new device will significantly improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment planning for children receiving free oncology care in Upper Egypt.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ambassador Iwai stated:
“This is the first cooperation between the Embassy of Japan and Shefaa Al Orman Foundation. I sincerely hope this project will be implemented smoothly and contribute to enhancing healthcare services in Upper Egypt.”
Suzan Mohamed Moheb, Institutional Partnerships Director at Al Orman Association and Shefaa Al Orman Organization, expressed deep gratitude for Japan’s support and stressed that the equipment will help the hospital continue providing completely free, high-quality treatment to patients from across the region.
She added that the organization looks forward to this being the first of many successful joint projects with the Embassy of Japan.
Since 1994, Japan’s “KUSANONE” scheme has provided more than US$11 million for 182 grass-roots projects in Egypt in partnership with 131 local NGOs, covering healthcare, education, water and sanitation, vocational training, women’s empowerment, and support for persons with disabilities.
Shefaa Al Orman Hospital in Luxor is one of Egypt’s leading facilities offering free specialized cancer treatment, particularly to children and underprivileged patients from Upper Egypt.
