Egypt and Russia sign additional agreements to advance El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant
Egypt and Russia have signed new supplementary protocols and contracts to accelerate the construction and operation of the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant, a landmark project for Egypt’s energy sector.
The agreements were signed in Alamein on behalf of Egypt by Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, and for Russia by Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom). This step reinforces an existing government-level partnership aimed at building and operating nuclear power stations in Egypt.
In a joint statement, Egyptian and Russian officials highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership and reaffirmed their commitment to timely project completion.
Dr. Mahmoud Esmat emphasized that this cooperation reflects the strong political will between the two nations to ensure clean and reliable energy for Egypt’s future, in line with the country’s updated national energy strategy for 2040.
Alexey Likhachev also reiterated Russia’s dedication to supporting Egypt’s goal of building its first nuclear power plant, calling it a major step towards strengthening Egypt’s energy security and sustainable development.
The El-Dabaa nuclear plant is positioned to play a significant role in Egypt's transition to clean energy and meeting its long-term power needs.
