Egyptian, Syrian FMs meet to discuss support, stability
Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Dr Badr Abdel Aaty, met with Mr. Asaad Al-Shaibani, who has been appointed as Foreign Minister in Syria’s new transitional government.
The meeting took place on Wednesday on the sidelines of the Oslo Forum.
According to Tamim Khalaf, the official spokesman for Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Abdel Aaty listened to a detailed explanation from the Syrian side about recent political, security, and economic developments in Syria, as well as the internal and external challenges the country faces.
Minister Abdel Aaty reiterated Egypt’s strong support for the Syrian people and called for stability, unity, and the preservation of Syria’s national institutions and territorial integrity.
He also emphasized the importance of achieving lasting peace in Syria by involving all national groups — reflecting the country’s social, religious, and ethnic diversity — in the political process. The Minister highlighted Egypt’s commitment to fighting terrorism and addressing the issue of foreign fighters to maintain stability in Syria.
Furthermore, he expressed Egypt’s concern about external interventions and strongly condemned repeated Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty and the continuing occupation of Syrian territory.
