Tri-national talks aim for food hub at Suez Canal
ISMAILIA – In an important step towards strengthening global food security, the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has initiated talks with leading international partners to establish a major food logistics hub at Port Fouad. The prospective collaboration brings together the Suez Canal Authority, Canada’s IMGS Group—a specialist in logistics and port services—and China’s FAMSUN, a global leader in agri-engineering solutions.
Vice Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, led the talks alongside Mr. Imran Ali Khan, President of IMGS Group, and senior representatives from FAMSUN. Discussions focused on forging a three-way partnership aimed at advancing sustainable food supply chains in the region and beyond.
The ambitious plan includes developing an advanced logistics center dedicated to food security at Port Fouad, strategically located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa. This initiative aligns with Egypt’s commitment to harnessing its geographic advantages and supporting national and international development goals.
During the meeting, Rabie emphasized the Suez Canal’s unique capabilities and its pivotal role in supporting projects that enhance Egypt’s developmental objectives, stating, “We are keen to maximize the benefit of our unique resources and strategic position to establish high-value logistical projects that serve both national interests and reinforce the canal’s role in regional development.”
A formal cooperation protocol is expected to be signed soon, defining roles and responsibilities among the three parties, and paving the way for further technical and financial planning. Implementation of the project could begin in the near future.
Mr. Imran Ali Khan of IMGS Group expressed deep enthusiasm about the partnership: “The Suez Canal’s global reputation and unique location make it an ideal gateway to the Middle East and Africa, offering unparalleled opportunities for global suppliers. We look forward to collaborating closely to establish a logistics hub that strengthens the continuity and sustainability of food supply chains for the region and the world.”
FAMSUN, known for its expertise in agricultural engineering and food processing technology, brings global know-how in constructing strategic storage facilities for grains and oils, adding significant value to the initiative.
The project reflects the partners’ shared vision of leveraging world-class logistics, innovation, and cross-continental cooperation to contribute meaningfully to global food security.
