Odain Watson visits Egypt’s Media Production City to explore film collaboration
Egypt’s ambitious move to position itself as a global hub for film and television production welcomed a renowned guest this week. American actor and producer Odain Watson paid an official visit to Egypt’s famed Media Production City, in a step that reflects growing international interest in the country’s advanced production capabilities and diverse filming locations.
During his tour, Watson explored the city’s expansive open sets, a variety of studios, and leading technological centers, including the Audiovisual Heritage Revival Center and the world-class sound studio. Watson expressed his strong admiration for the technical and creative resources available, highlighting the unique architectural diversity and production flexibility offered by the facility.
With a distinguished career spanning theater, cinema, television, and music—and a reputation built on roles in celebrated American films—Odain Watson’s visit signals new opportunities for creative partnerships between Egypt and the international film industry.
Following a comprehensive tour, Watson met with Ahmed Sami Badawi, General Manager of the Egypt Film Commission. The two engaged in productive discussions about potential collaboration, including the possible production of an American television series filmed entirely in Egypt’s Media Production City.
Badawi also underlined the Commission’s pivotal role in supporting international productions. Thanks to the ‘one-stop-shop’ system, global filmmakers can access streamlined customs, logistical, and permitting services, coordinated efficiently with all relevant authorities. This system, designed to minimize obstacles and provide a smooth experience, is one of the reasons Egypt is fast becoming an attractive, cost-effective destination for major international film projects.
The Egypt Film Commission is the official authority responsible for issuing all necessary filming permits for foreign productions. Over the past period, the commission has received a significant number of Hollywood and international stars, supervising the production of more than 100 international film and television projects across Egypt’s iconic archaeological sites, tourist landmarks, and various regions.
Odain Watson’s visit is part of Egypt’s ongoing strategy to welcome the world’s top filmmakers and showcase the nation’s technological advancement, scenic beauty, and competitive filming environment.
