Egypt to launch free school trip platform for archaeological sites, museums
Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is preparing to launch “Rehla” (Journey)—a new digital platform that will make it easy for public schools across the country to organize free, educational trips to museums and archaeological sites.
This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing strategy to raise archaeological awareness among young people and encourage students to explore Egypt’s rich heritage firsthand. Developed in collaboration with digital partners and the Ministry of Education, “Rehla” will allow school coordinators to reserve visits to 112 different historic sites and museums throughout the year, including treasures like the Giza Pyramids, the Egyptian Museum, the Grand Egyptian Museum, and the Karnak Temple.
Thanks to integrated school databases and a secure online booking process, the platform will help schools avoid overcrowding and manage safe, organized excursions for both primary and preparatory level students. The tickets for these trips will be entirely free, with scheduling designed to ensure a smooth and meaningful learning experience for every group.
The new system is also part of Egypt’s broader move towards digital transformation in tourism, aiming not only to streamline school trips, but also to modernize the ticketing experience for all visitors with services like online ticketing, mobile apps, and self-service kiosks.
By opening the doors of Egypt’s cultural heritage wider to its youngest citizens, the Ministry hopes to inspire a lasting sense of pride and curiosity about the nation’s history and monuments.
