Egypt and France deepen strategic partnership, discuss regional peace

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt received a phone call today from French President Emmanuel Macron, as both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the strong partnership between their countries.

According to an official statement, President El-Sisi expressed deep appreciation for the ongoing development of Egyptian-French relations, highlighting the positive impact since the two nations elevated their ties to a strategic partnership level during President Macron’s visit to Cairo in April 2025. This enhanced relationship has led to meaningful growth in cooperation across various sectors, including politics, economics, industry, tourism, and transport.

During their conversation, the two presidents explored ways to further boost political, economic, and investment ties, emphasizing the increase in bilateral trade witnessed in recent months.

The leaders also discussed key regional developments. President El-Sisi thanked France for its support of Egypt's efforts to broker a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, stressing the need to uphold the ceasefire, expand humanitarian aid, and initiate immediate recovery and reconstruction work. He underlined the importance of moving forward to the next phase of peace efforts.

President Macron, in turn, praised Egypt’s pivotal role in promoting regional stability, particularly in ending hostilities in Gaza. The call also touched on the situation in the West Bank, with President El-Sisi reiterating Egypt's firm rejection of violations against the Palestinian people and calling for greater international pressure to stop these actions and support the Palestinian Authority. Both leaders agreed that present efforts should lead to the launch of a comprehensive political process to establish an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Regarding the ongoing conflict in Sudan, President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, rejecting any threats to its security and expressing Egypt’s support for efforts to end the war and restore peace and stability in the neighboring country.

At the close of the call, both leaders exchanged well wishes for the New Year, expressing hope for continued stability and prosperity for the peoples of Egypt and France.
