Egypt unveils new Tourist Promenade ahead of Grand Egyptian Museum opening
In a significant step towards showcasing Egypt’s rich heritage to the world, Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, accompanied by several officials, conducted an inspection today of ongoing development projects around the Grand Egyptian Museum.
Among the most exciting additions is the newly completed "Tourist Promenade," designed to seamlessly connect the museum with the iconic Pyramids of Giza.
Set to open on November 1, the Grand Egyptian Museum is anticipated as one of the world’s most important cultural events this year.
During his visit, Dr. Madbouly received a briefing from Mr. Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, who highlighted Egypt’s commitment to enhancing its status as a top global tourist destination. Fathy praised the coordinated efforts across various state institutions to finalize preparations for the museum’s grand opening and the development of its surrounding areas.
The Tourist Promenade forms a direct pathway between the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Giza Pyramids, offering a remarkable blend of modern design and respect for the region’s visual and historical identity.
Detailed by Engineer Major General Atef Moftah, Supervising the GEM and its surroundings, the promenade spans approximately 1.27 kilometers in length and varies in width from 13.5 to 27.5 meters.
It starts at the museum’s parking area and weaves through historic landscapes up to the ancient pyramids, maintaining aesthetic harmony throughout.
Designed and built to international standards, the promenade is part of Egypt’s comprehensive tourism plan. It provides visitors with a smooth and environmentally friendly route—walkable or accessible by electric vehicles—between the two landmark sites.
Major General Moftah emphasized that the promenade has greatly enhanced the visual appeal of the Giza Plateau and promises to deliver a memorable, integrated experience to visitors from around the globe.
The opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum and its accompanying promenade is poised to mark a new era for tourism in Egypt—welcoming the world to experience its ancient wonders in a setting combining both comfort and cultural authenticity.
