Egypt to showcase artistic heritage at "Turathna 2025" cultural expo
Egypt’s thriving world of traditional crafts and heritage arts will take center stage at “Turathna 2025”, a major exhibition set to open on October 4, 2025, at the Egypt International Exhibitions Center in Cairo. Under the esteemed patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the event highlights the country’s deep-rooted commitment to supporting and celebrating its vibrant artisan sector.
The annual “Turathna” (meaning “Our Heritage”) Exhibition, now in its seventh year, serves as Egypt's largest platform for handmade crafts and folk arts from across the nation’s governorates. Organized by Egypt’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA), the expo brings together a remarkable gathering of artisans, cultural foundations, ministries, and civil society organizations—all working in harmony to uplift this vital industry.
Mr. Basil Rahmy, MSMEDA’s CEO, emphasized the event’s role as an essential meeting point for stakeholders passionate about heritage crafts. “We're proud that ‘Turathna’ gathers all those who support Egypt’s rich tradition of handcrafts and heritage arts, from government ministries to NGOs and public institutions,” he stated. “Our goal is to foster collaboration, provide technical and financial support to artisans, and expand their access to both local and international markets.”
More than a thousand outstanding heritage projects—representing the creativity and skill of millions of Egyptian artisans, especially youth and women in Upper Egypt and border regions—will be showcased. This year’s edition also features the strongest representation yet from ministry partners, NGOs, and international agencies.
Mr. Rahmy highlighted that the ongoing annual support of President El-Sisi reflects Egypt’s profound appreciation for the economic and cultural importance of craft industries. These crafts not only preserve the country’s cultural identity but also provide crucial job opportunities and empower communities, in keeping with Egypt’s vision for sustainable development and inclusive growth.
Drawing inspiration from Egypt’s ancient civilization—a beacon for craft and artistry throughout history—this year’s “Turathna” exhibition honors the timelessness of Egyptian artisanship while embracing its ongoing renewal and modernization by new generations.
Open to international visitors, the exhibition invites the world to explore Egypt’s enduring cultural legacy and meet the artisans working to keep heritage alive, blending tradition with innovation in every masterpiece.
