Ain Sokhna Port receives largest-ever bulk carrier
The General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) has announced a remarkable milestone for Ain Sokhna Port. Earlier today, the port received its largest-ever dry bulk carrier since its inauguration—the "Berge Kuju," arriving from Brazil and carrying a significant shipment of iron ore.
The vessel, flying the flag of the Isle of Man, measures 300 meters in length and 50 meters in width, with a draft of 16.4 meters and a total capacity of 206,176 tons. On board was a cargo of 180,008 tons of iron ore (iron billet), destined for Ezz Steel, a leading steel manufacturer in Egypt.
This event marks a new achievement in the ongoing development and modernization efforts by the SCZone. By investing in port infrastructure and operations, the Zone continues to strengthen its position as a key regional logistics hub along both the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, boosting competitiveness both regionally and internationally.
Receiving such a large shipment not only reflects the operational efficiency and robust infrastructure of Ain Sokhna Port but also highlights its pivotal role in supporting trade and industry across Egypt and the wider region. The continued enhancement of SCZone’s ports underscores Egypt’s commitment to facilitating global trade and attracting major international shipping lines.
