“King Lear” premiere at the end of June

Egypt’s Minister of Culture, Dr. Ahmed Fouad Henno, attended part of a rehearsal for the upcoming production of Shakespeare’s “King Lear.” 


The play features the distinguished actor Yehia El-Fakharany in the leading role, marking his much-anticipated return to the stage.


The official opening for the public is set for the final week of this month at the National Theatre in downtown Cairo.


In his remarks, the Minister expressed great happiness at seeing Mr. El-Fakharany back at the National Theatre, describing him as an extraordinary symbol of Egyptian creativity and talent.


The Minister praised both the unique performance style and the exceptional preparation for this production, calling it a shining moment for Egyptian theater. He shared his hope that such a remarkable show would restore the National Theatre’s vibrant energy and legacy.


Dr. Henno also emphasized that reviving “King Lear” is an important step in the Ministry’s efforts to promote quality theater in Egypt. He promised continued support for the arts, including providing all technical and logistical assistance needed for success, and preparing for a strong theatrical season ahead.


For his part, Yehia El-Fakharany thanked the Minister for his full support and personal interest in every stage of the show’s preparation. He revealed that “King Lear” holds a very dear place in his long and celebrated artistic career.
