Turkish Embassy in Cairo marks 2025 as Year of Family, supports Palestinians
The Turkish Embassy in Cairo hosted an event on Wednesday to mark 2025 as the Year of the Family in Turkey, while also providing support for Palestinian families affected by the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
The event highlighted Turkey’s commitment to strengthening family institutions and extending humanitarian aid to those in need.
Turkey, with a population exceeding 85 million, is known for its youthful demographic and social diversity.
In recent years, the country has implemented policies to slow population growth while promoting healthy and sustainable marriages with a minimum of three children.
Under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkey has introduced social, economic, and educational programs to support families, ensuring their prosperity and stability.
These initiatives include financial, social, and administrative measures to boost fertility rates, support working mothers, and provide social housing, similar to policies in Egypt. Turkey also emphasizes protecting the family unit—defined as a union of men and women—against perceived threats from Western campaigns and movements.
The event at the Turkish Embassy in Cairo focused on providing financial and social support to Palestinian families residing in Egypt, who are facing economic and psychological hardships due to the war in Gaza.
The initiative aligns with Turkey’s broader humanitarian efforts, carried out in collaboration with Egypt, to support families displaced or affected by the Israeli aggression in Gaza. Aid is being delivered through organizations like the Turkish Red Crescent and other relevant institutions in both countries.
The event was attended by the Turkish Ambassador to Cairo, Saleh Mutlu Şen, and the Palestinian Ambassador, Diab Al-Louh.
Egyptian singer Mustafa Kamel performed voluntarily at the event, and Tarek Abdel Basset Abdel Samad, son of the renowned Quranic reciter Sheikh Abdel Basset Abdel Samad, recited verses from the Quran.
In his speech, Ambassador Şen stated that the event was organized under the directive of President Erdoğan and with the support of Turkey’s Minister of Family and Social Services, Mahinur Özdemir. He emphasized that the primary goal was to provide material and emotional support to Palestinian families in Egypt, many of whom have lost loved ones, been injured, or faced economic challenges due to the conflict in Gaza.
Ambassador Şen noted that Turkey and Egypt share a common vision on protecting the family institution both nationally and internationally.
He expressed hope that Palestinian families would one day return to their homeland following a ceasefire in Gaza and the start of reconstruction efforts in line with Egypt’s plans.
However, he acknowledged that this process would be challenging and painful. Şen stressed that Palestinian families deserve the full support of the Arab and Islamic world during this difficult period, and Turkey, in partnership with Egypt, is committed to providing all forms of assistance.
The Palestinian families expressed their gratitude to Turkey, President Erdoğan, Minister Özdemir, and Ambassador Şen for their compassion and support. Ambassador Al-Louh praised Turkey and Egypt for being at the forefront of countries providing aid to Gaza, reaffirming the commitment to continued cooperation on these critical issues.
Turkey’s Ministry of Family and Social Services also provides psychological and social support to Gazans who have traveled to Turkey for medical treatment, further demonstrating the country’s dedication to humanitarian efforts.
