Egyptian authorities respond to tragic boat accident off Libyan coast
Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigration has expressed deep concern following the tragic sinking of a boat carrying Egyptian nationals off the coast of Tobruk, Libya.
According to an official statement, the Egyptian authorities, in close coordination with their Libyan counterparts, are actively following the situation. Upon receiving reports of the incident, the Egyptian Consulate General in Benghazi dispatched a delegation to Tobruk to work directly with Libyan officials to identify the passengers and assess the situation.
So far, several bodies have been identified, and arrangements have been made for their repatriation to Egypt after confirmation by their families. Efforts are ongoing to identify and transport remaining victims, with the consulate maintaining close coordination with Libyan authorities.
Meanwhile, survivors of the accident are being cared for while investigations continue, with plans underway to facilitate their safe return to Egypt as soon as possible.
The Ministry reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to the welfare of Egyptian citizens abroad and urged all citizens to avoid dangerous irregular migration routes, which expose individuals to grave risks and exploitation by traffickers. The Ministry also reiterated Egypt’s dedication to providing safe, legal alternatives for young people—through training programs and opening legal migration channels in partnership with friendly countries.
The Ministry conveyed its deepest condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims, praying for mercy for those lost and strength for their loved ones in this difficult time.
