Egypt and Pakistan strengthen health cooperation at Global Mental Health Summit

Doha, Qatar – Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, met with Mr. Syed Mustafa Kamal, Pakistan’s Minister of Health, on the sidelines of the 6th Global Ministerial Summit on Mental Health held in Doha, Qatar.

During the meeting, Dr. Abdel Ghaffar highlighted the deep historical ties between Egypt and Pakistan, emphasizing Egypt’s internationally recognized achievements in combating Hepatitis C and implementing its comprehensive health insurance system. 

He expressed Egypt’s readiness to share its expertise with Pakistan through training programs and exchanges of specialized delegations to build capacity, noting that health cooperation between the two nations strengthens regional health security and supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.

The Pakistani minister praised Egypt’s pioneering efforts in eliminating Hepatitis C, expressing appreciation for Egypt’s ongoing support through the provision of medicines and hosting Pakistani delegations for knowledge exchange. He acknowledged Hepatitis C as a significant health challenge in Pakistan and described Egypt’s achievements as an inspiring model for reforming Pakistan’s health system. He also commended Egypt’s progress in implementing its comprehensive health insurance system, expressing Pakistan’s interest in learning from this experience.

Both sides agreed to enhance coordination through mutual visits and specialized training programs to transfer Egypt’s expertise in public health, preventive programs, and comprehensive health insurance. They reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation to strengthen health systems in both countries, contributing to addressing regional and global health challenges.
