El-Sisi: Libya’s stability is an inseparable part of Egypt’s security
Libya’s stability is an inseparable part of Egypt’s own national security, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi emphasized on Monday, as he welcomed Libyan National Army Commander Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar for high-level talks in the city of Alamein.
The meeting, attended by senior Libyan and Egyptian officials—including Chiefs of Staff Khaled and Saddam Haftar, and Egypt’s intelligence chief Major-General Hassan Rashad—underscored the deep and historic ties between the two neighboring nations.
President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s firm support for Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and stability, expressing a commitment to work closely with Libyan partners to help restore security and build inclusive institutions. He stressed the importance of joint efforts among all Libyan parties to create a comprehensive political roadmap, paving the way for both parliamentary and presidential elections, while rejecting external interference and calling for the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Libya.
The Egyptian leader also highlighted the crucial role the Libyan National Army plays in counterterrorism efforts, commending its work in combating extremist groups in eastern Libya.
Field Marshal Haftar, in turn, thanked Egypt for its unwavering diplomatic and developmental support throughout Libya’s recent challenges. He praised Egypt’s willingness to share its experience in reconstruction and development, and reaffirmed the shared goal of realizing stability and prosperity for the Libyan people.
The meeting reflects the ongoing commitment of both countries to foster peace, cooperation, and shared progress across the region.
