Experience Alexandria’s magic — Free heritage sites and museums for all on July 24

In a remarkable gesture of cultural pride and hospitality, the historic city of Alexandria is opening the doors of its most treasured museums and ancient landmarks to everyone, free of charge, this July 24th. The initiative marks Alexandria’s National Day – a festive occasion honouring the city’s storied heritage and vibrant cosmopolitan spirit.

On this special Thursday, visitors – both locals and tourists – will be welcomed into the legendary Graeco-Roman Museum, the glittering Royal Jewelry Museum, and the fascinating Alexandria National Museum at no cost. Additionally, all archaeological sites across the city will also be accessible, offering a rare chance for discovery and exploration.

This initiative, led by Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, aims to celebrate important national events while highlighting Egypt’s rich historical and cultural depth. By extending this open invitation, organizers hope to foster greater appreciation for Alexandria’s unique legacy, especially among young people, and encourage domestic tourism during the sunlit summer months.

Often described as the ‘Bride of the Mediterranean,’ Alexandria boasts a captivating blend of ancient wonders and modern vitality – from its Hellenistic roots and royal splendor to its enduring influence on art and scholarship. This city-wide celebration invites visitors from all backgrounds to walk in the footsteps of pharaohs, emperors, poets, and dreamers, and to experience firsthand the warmth, diversity, and historical richness that define Alexandria.

Whether you are a lover of history, a seeker of beauty, or a family in search of inspiration, July 24th offers a passport to Alexandria’s heart – entirely for free. This exceptional occasion is more than just a local festivity; it’s an open invitation to the world.
