Egyptian authorities foil terror plot linked to Hasm Group

The Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced today that security forces have successfully foiled a major terror plot orchestrated by the Hasm group, a group affiliated with the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood.

According to intelligence reports, Hasm, operating from outside Egypt and allegedly planning from Turkey, had been preparing to carry out attacks on vital security and economic sites across the country.

Authorities indicate that Hasm members used a neighboring country as a base for training and operational planning.

The Ministry reports that one fugitive member, Ahmed Mohamed Abdel-Razek Ahmed Ghoneim, illegally infiltrated Egypt via desert routes.

Ghoneim, in collaboration with another member, Ihab Abdel-Latif Mohamed Abdel-Kader, established a hideout in the Bulaq El-Dakrour neighborhood of Cairo, preparing to execute the group's plot.

Security forces acted swiftly, raiding the suspected hideout. A violent exchange of gunfire followed, resulting in the deaths of both Ghoneim and Abdel-Kader.

Tragically, a civilian bystander lost their life during the incident, and a police officer sustained injuries while attempting to assist the wounded.

Egyptian authorities have also identified several leading figures tied to the scheme, including Yahya El-Sayed Ibrahim Mohamed Moussa, Mohamed Rafeeq Ibrahim Manaa, Alaa Ali Ali El-Samahi, Mohamed Abdel Hafeez Abdallah Abdel Hafeez, and Ali Mahmoud Mohamed Abdel-Wanees. All are accused of orchestrating or participating in previous attempts on public figures’ lives or involvement in other criminal activities.

The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its commitment to fighting terrorism and protecting Egypt’s security and stability. They emphasized the ongoing threat posed by extremist networks and their determination to prevent further plots against the country and its people.

This development comes as Egypt continues to cooperate with international partners in the fight against terrorism, underscoring the need for coordinated efforts to ensure global peace and security.
