Egypt’s Royal Carriages Museum unveils rare women’s jewellery in new exhibition

Egypt’s Royal Carriages Museum inaugurated a temporary archaeological exhibition titled “Khazain al-Hawanem” (The Ladies’ Treasuries), showcasing rare jewellery and ornaments never previously displayed, as part of celebrations honouring Egyptian women.

The exhibition features seven unique pieces of jewellery and decorative items that highlight the finesse of traditional Egyptian handicrafts, the diversity of materials used, and the aesthetic taste associated with Egyptian women’s heritage.

Museum director Professor Amin Mahmoud al-Kahki said the display aims to enrich visitors’ experience by presenting previously unseen collection items.

“The exhibition includes rare pieces that reflect the precision and skill of artisanal industries, while showcasing various materials and the refined artistic and aesthetic sense linked to Egyptian women,” al-Kahki said.

Among the highlighted artefacts are:

  • A necklace made of orange quartz stones
  • A silver bracelet combining spheres and cubes
  • Another silver bracelet with dangling pendants
  • A belt decorated with coloured beads
  • A bracelet inlaid with multi-coloured enamel (blue, green and red) in the shape of adjacent roses
  • A silver brooch plated with gold and set with blue quartz stones
  • A pair of shoulder ornaments made of coloured glass stones

Rasha Said, head of the museum’s temporary exhibitions department, oversaw the display of these items.

The exhibition, organised within the framework of the museum’s cultural and educational role, seeks to raise awareness of Egypt’s heritage and highlight its artistic and aesthetic dimensions.

It forms part of broader activities marking Women’s Month and Mother’s Day.

The show is scheduled to run until April 26, 2026.
