Egypt and Oman deepen ties with new cooperation agreements
Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, welcomed Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi in Cairo today, where the two leaders chaired the 16th session of the Egyptian-Omani Joint Committee. The summit was also attended by Egypt’s Minister of Labour, Mohamed Gebran.
The high-level meeting celebrated the longstanding, brotherly relations between Egypt and Oman, with both sides voicing a strong commitment to expanding strategic cooperation.
Dr. Abdelatty praised Oman’s wise and balanced diplomacy and highlighted directions given by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq to deepen economic and trade ties.
Discussions centered on increasing trade, boosting mutual investments, and exploring opportunities in areas such as new and renewable energy, logistics, digital transformation, health, agriculture, and education.
Both delegations emphasized the importance of greater collaboration between Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone and Oman’s Duqm Special Economic Zone, particularly in maritime transport and logistics, to strengthen commercial exchanges.
On the sidelines of the talks, Minister Gebran recognized Oman's support for Egyptians working in the Sultanate and called for enhanced cooperation on vocational training.
The ministers also addressed key regional issues, including developments in Gaza, Yemen, Syria, Sudan, and the Horn of Africa. Both countries called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the safe release of hostages, a stop to forced displacement, and more international support for reconstruction efforts and a two-state solution. They also underlined the urgency of de-escalating tensions between Iran and Israel and advocated for diplomatic solutions to promote regional security.
Concluding the session, both countries signed seven memoranda of understanding and executive programs, covering cooperation in labor, mineral resources, investment promotion, media, food safety, and religious affairs.
