Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, met with CEO of Mindray, Mr. Hao Wu, a leading company in medical devices and solutions, to strengthen cooperation in localizing medical industries.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Hisham Steit, Chairman of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Mr. Khaled Nazmi, Egypt’s Ambassador to China, and Dr. Ahmed El-Ezabi, a prominent pharmaceutical investor.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Huawei Connect 2025 conference, held in Shanghai, China, from September 18 to 20, 2025, at the Shanghai World Expo Center. During the visit, Dr. Abdel Ghaffar toured Mindray’s factory, observing the production stages of advanced medical devices, including ultrasound machines, defibrillators, and anesthesia equipment. He emphasized the urgency of local manufacturing and technology transfer to support Egypt’s medical industry localization.
The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health stated that the discussions focused on enhancing collaboration between the Ministry and Mindray to advance Egypt’s healthcare sector. Topics included introducing advanced digital solutions, AI-enhanced equipment, smart hospital applications, and exploring local manufacturing of medical devices, alongside technology and expertise transfer.
The meeting also addressed training programs to improve the skills of healthcare professionals in handling cutting-edge technologies. Proposals included establishing a “Mindray Academy” in Egypt, similar to initiatives by global companies like Siemens and General Electric.
Further discussions covered supplying advanced medical equipment, such as patient monitors, ventilators, defibrillators, and diagnostic lab systems, as well as equipping mobile clinics with diagnostic and imaging tools to serve remote areas and support public health initiatives.
The minister witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Medical Supply, and Technology Management, Dr. Ahmed El-Ezabi, and Mindray. The agreement aims to promote local manufacturing of medical devices in Egypt, fostering self-sufficiency and meeting the healthcare sector’s needs.
