Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, held a telephone discussion Wednesday with his Greek counterpart, Foreign Minister Georgios Gerapetritis, focusing on ongoing regional developments in Gaza and Sudan.
During the call, Dr. Abdel Aaty highlighted the urgent need for intensified regional and international cooperation to uphold the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement and ensure the full implementation of its terms. He stressed the importance of creating a political horizon that advances the realization of a Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 lines, in line with international references, to meet the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people.
Dr. Abdel Aaty also called attention to the recent UN Security Council resolution regarding Gaza, emphasizing its role in securing a ceasefire and ensuring the safety of Palestinians. He reiterated the need to support the international stabilization force in Gaza so it can carry out its responsibilities effectively.
For his part, the Greek Foreign Minister commended Egypt’s ongoing efforts in working towards a just and comprehensive peace and in promoting stability and security throughout the region.
The conversation also addressed the situation in Sudan. Dr. Abdel Aaty called for an immediate ceasefire and the creation of conditions conducive to launching an inclusive political process that preserves Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and stability. He expressed Egypt’s condemnation of the recent atrocities in El Fasher and urged greater regional and international support for the Sudanese people and their national institutions.
