Sisi holds talks with Algerian, Tunisian FMs on regional crises, bilateral ties

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al‑Sisi on Thursday received Algeria’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, who delivered a written message from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirming the strong and fast‑growing ties between the two countries, the Egyptian presidency said.

Presidential spokesman Mohamed El‑Shenawy said Attaf conveyed Tebboune’s appreciation for Sisi and highlighted rising trade and investment flows, as well as the shared desire to deepen cooperation and coordination on developments in the Arab world, the Middle East and Africa.

Sisi asked Attaf to relay his greetings to Tebboune and underlined the “deep, historic” bonds between Cairo and Algiers. He called for building on the outcomes of the 2025 Egypt–Algeria joint higher committee and emphasized intensifying political coordination, including through the tripartite mechanism with Tunisia to support a Libyan‑led political settlement.

The president reiterated Egypt’s foreign‑policy principles of avoiding escalation, rejecting interference in other states’ affairs and pursuing peaceful solutions to crises.

According to the presidency, Attaf said Algeria was committed to strengthening cooperation with Egypt, noting that bilateral ties had seen significant growth over the past five years, with Egypt becoming Algeria’s top Arab trade partner and one of its leading investors.

Sisi also received Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti, who conveyed greetings from President Kais Saied and a formal invitation for Sisi to visit Tunis. The Egyptian president stressed the importance of boosting bilateral cooperation and implementing decisions of the 18th joint higher committee held in Cairo in 2025.

Nafti praised the level of political consultation between the two countries and reaffirmed Tunisia’s commitment to stronger economic and diplomatic ties.

Both meetings included discussions on regional tensions, with Sisi underscoring the central role of neighbouring states in safeguarding Libya’s stability and the need to maintain the tripartite coordination mechanism between Egypt, Algeria and Tunisia.
